B i o g r a p h y
David W. Brewer (b. 1992) began his music career at Platte County High School in Platte City, Missouri in 2008. In high school David participated in All-District and All-State Choirs, as well as the auditioned choirs that Platte County offered, directed by Mrs. Joyce Hisel.
In 2010 David began attending Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, Missouri. His emphasis was in studying Vocal Performance and Music Theory/Composition. David studied private voice with Dr. Stephen Town, Dr. Sheila Phillips, and Mr. Mike Phillips. David participated in the Tower Choir directed by Dr. Stephen Town, and the Madraliers/Celebration Show Choir directed by Dr. Brian Lanier. Past composition teachers are Dr. Ernest Kramer and Dr. Kendall Prinz. While at Northwest, David competed in the NATS competition for music performance and received the top grades in Music Theory I, Theory IV, and Advanced Theory/Composition. David graduated with a Bachelor of Arts with an emphasis in Vocal Music in May 2015.
David graduated in the spring of 2018 from Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, Oklahoma with a master's degree in Choral Conducting with Dr. Z. Randall Stroope and Dr. Christopher Haygood. David was one of the Graduate Teaching Assistants and was the director of the University's all men's chorus, Statesmen, under Dr. Haygood's supervision.
David has performed with the Nodaway Community Chorus directed by Mike Phillips, and the Liberty Community Chorus directed by Bryan Taylor. He was part of the William Baker Festival Singers performance of Beethoven's 9th Symphony. He also gave private voice lessons in Maryville. David is currently a member and composer-in-residence of the Robidoux Chorale in St. Joseph, Missouri directed by Dr. Elise Hepworth.
Currently, David is working on several compositions in his hometown of Kansas City, Missouri. He has had premieres at Oklahoma State University (She's Like the Swallow & Amazing Grace), Missouri Western State University (Lux Aeterna), multiple churches throughout the state of Missouri, and had his first conference performance at the 80th Annual Missouri Music Educators Association conference in late January (Welcome Home). David is also taking private composition lessons with Dr. Stroope.
